If You Aren’t Sure About Flu Shots, Try Chiropractic Care

Nov 21, 2016

Chiropractors at AICA Marietta are here to offer some advice on how to prevent getting sick.

Cold & Flu Prevention

Research shows a direct link between the immune and nervous systems, which are both supported by regular Chiropractic examinations.

Outside of using Chiropractic techniques to boost your immune system, try these other natural solutions this winter in order to avoid catching a cold or coming down with the flu.

Allow Your Body To Rest and Naturally Recover

Getting at least eight hours of sleep each night is vital for maintaining good health. Staying up late for days at a time can weaken your immune system by as much as 60 percent depending on the circumstances.

In order to get a better night’s rest, try creating an environment that is suited for relaxation and repose.

Before going to bed, turn your phone off or keep it a few feet away from arms reach. Avoid keeping the television on all night and try to find a reasonable temperature that you are comfortable sleeping in.

Exercise Throughout The Cold, Winter Months

Although Marietta doesn’t experience the same type of cold temperatures as others areas of the country, it can still drop below 32 degrees from time to time. When it gets this cold outside, staying motivated and active can be difficult.

Research shows that staying active is a great way to prevent getting sick. In fact, The American Journal of Medicine conducted a study that saw regular moderate to intense exercise helps reduce respiratory tract infections, among other common ailments.

In order to stay physically active this winter, try taking brisk walks around your neighborhood, or consider joining a local gym.

Vitamin D

Medical research shows a direct relationship between weak immune systems and vitamin D deficiency.

Although it is more difficult to absorb vitamin D during the fall and winter months (when the amount of daylight begins to lessen), you can still get everything your body needs through the consumption of:

  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Milk
  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Vitamin supplements

You may also want to look into light therapy if you also suffer from seasonal depression.

Reduce The Amount of Sugar You Consume

Sugar is now known to weaken and reduce your immune system’s ability to fend off harmful bacteria or viruses.

Try to substitute processed goods and refined carbohydrates for whole grains and foods that contain natural sugar, such as wild rice or fruit.
