Prevent Type 2 Diabetes with Chiropractic Care

Nov 14, 2016

Marietta chiropractic care for treating diabetes Between the years of 1995 and 2010, 18 states witnessed a 100 percent or greater increase in people who were identified as diabetic!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 3 adults in the United States will have diabetes by 2050 if this trend continues.

Since November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, we, the Chiropractors at AICA Marietta, wanted to do our part by providing relevant information on this condition, its symptoms, and the types of Chiropractic treatment solutions that are available.

What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases that alters how your body processes and uses glucose or blood sugar. Glucose is vital for maintaining positive health as it energizes your tissue and muscle cells, while also supporting brain function.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes refers to patients that produce little to no insulin and are dependent permanently on daily insulin therapy. Approximately 1.25 million children and adults throughout the US have type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes refers to patients whose bodies aren’t able to produce enough insulin to maintain healthy glucose levels or have become resistant to the insulin’s effects. This is the most common form of diabetes and affects close to 30 million people in the United States.

Both types of diabetes present similar symptoms that include:

  • Blindness
  • Digestive complications
  • Extreme thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Heart disease
  • Hunger
  • Kidney damage
  • Skin irritation
  • Stroke

Prediabetes

Over 86 million Americans have diabetes, and both of these types are treatable. Prediabetes is a condition where your blood sugar levels do not get high enough for a formal diabetes diagnosis.

Most patients who have type 2 diabetes start out as prediabetic. In this state, early treatment can resolve high glucose levels and prevent type 2 from developing.
